Tony Phillips
Grammy nominated mix specialist Tony Phillips may have a hits-filled major-label pedigree-- but he also has a long history of being indie-friendly.
Early in his career, Tony opened a demo studio in the UK, providing services for The Damned, Robin Trower, Nik Kershaw and Captain Sensible. Then he became house engineer at Pete Townshend’s Eel Pie Studio, recording The Clash, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and The Sisters Of Mercy.
Before beginning work with legendary producer Trevor Horn on such projects as Seal, The Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Tony had his first two major label hits by mixing A-ha’s “Take On Me” and Naked Eye’s “Always Something There To Remind Me”.
Joni Mitchell invited Tony to move to Los Angeles to work on her Night Ride Home album. Tony’s subsequent work with Joni’s producer Larry Klein led to a partnership resulting in a Grammy Nomination for “Best Engineered Album” for David Baerwald’s Bedtime Stories. Tony then partnered with writer/producer Jim Steinman, and mixed Celine Dion’s platinum selling and Grammy winning album Falling In To You.
Tony’s remix of Nicole Kidman’s song from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack became a #1 hit in the UK - which opened the door into movies and TV. His composing and mixing credits include “Extreme Makeover Home Edition”, “Deal Or No Deal” and “Undercover Boss.”
